Submission guidelines

Please email 5 - 7 poems to choltzman@runbox.com, in a single file formatted PDF or docx.  Documents submitted otherwise won't be read.  

The series “comes together” more or less organically and by serendipity.  That is, I read through submissions listening for voices that will hold an audience’s attention, that may complement one another or, conversely, make for interesting contrasts.

I look less at content, more at style, voice, emotive quality, and a focus on language as the medium for expression.  What often catches my eye is a level of writerly sophistication that suggests you’ve read widely in the history of poetry, have read for the art of it, not simply the message, and have tried to apply what you’ve discovered — in your own voice and way, of course! — in your writing.

All of which is to say, I look for what will make for a memorable audience experience, regardless of subject and author pedigree.

Submission periods are June 1 - August 1 for the fall series and January 1 - March 1 for the spring series.  Work submitted outside these windows will not be considered.
